Henna Tattoos: Beautiful, temporary henna tattoos to give you a lovely take-home reminder of your time at the festival. We only use safe, natural, home made henna paste to ensure quality. Prices start from $5 for children and $10 for adults.

Fortune Telling: Whether it be Romani Tarot, crystal healing, palm reading, tea leaf reading or Turkish coffee reading, have your destiny clarified by one of the Shuvani fortune tellers. Perhaps you would like to hear from all of them!

On her handmade loom, Jodita will demonstrate this medieval blackwork embroidery style said to have originated in the middle ages in Egypt. The style of embroidery was popular amongst all classes from the 13th cent and became widespread throughout Spain. Katharine of Aragon is documented as learning the style in Spain as a child and she later imported the style to England when she married Henry 8th where it became known as Spanish work.

Depicting centuries of migrations along the Spice Trail, the Shuvani dance troupe perform a series of dances based on the traditions of India, Persia, The Middle East, Turkey, Europe and Spain, in that order, reflecting the path taken by Indian emigrants that began 1000 years ago and resulted in the Romani, Domari and Lom nations of modern times. The troupe of gorgeous Shuvani dancers are delighted to have you join them on this historic journey.

One of the major crafts associated with the Indian emigrants of the middle ages (who went on to become the Rom, Dom and Lom peoples) is blacksmithing. It is believed the artisans were prized and sought after by the armies as they were expert at weapons manufacture and repair. See how our Shuvani blacksmith on-the-move works uses a kiln and forge created just out of the materials he finds on the earth around him.

  • Opening Hours
    SAT 10:00am - 6:00pm
    SUN 9:00am - 3:00pm
  • Food
    The Old Petrie Town Markets will be operating Saturday 10am to 3pm and Sunday 8am to 2pm. Food is available there. We encourage you to bring your food, picnic blankets and a rug as we will have a area in front of our performance area for you to relax and watch.
  • Parking
    Old Petrie Town has extensive parking facilities.
  • Toilets
    Toilet facilities are located OUT of the Shuvani Encampment and within Old Petrie Town.
  • Dogs
    Due to having our own animals on display we ask that no dogs be brought into the encampment please.
  • Pricing
    General admission for all is $5, with children four years of age and under free.
    Demonstrations and performances are all free. Some workshops will have a fee, and some workshops will require ESSENTIAL ONLINE BOOKINGS.
  • *Please Note: children MUST be accompanied at ALL times by an adult.
