Ozgen in Queensland! Residency programme and Community dance theatre show Aşk (Love) - November 8th 2014

We invite you to experience
the dark passion, jealousy, romance and sadness
of two different loves!

Acclaimed international Turkish dancer Ozgen returns to Australia with his much anticipated new community dance theatre show Aşk (Love).

Produced in conjunction with Soul Dance School of Romani and Middle Eastern Dance, Aşk will showcase a cast of professional and amateur dancers to tell two tales of tragic love: one set in a modern Roma camp, the other at the Ottoman Court. Ozgen has used his wide knowledge of the most popular Turkish dance forms — Romani, Lyrical and Oriental — combined with his unique theatrical style, to create a community project enabling dancers to study not only the Turkish dance genres and choreographic staging, but also elements of acting and theatrical production — all towards the exciting goal of the dynamic performance night at the project’s conclusion.

ABOUT THE MAN HIMSELF

“If you get the chance to see or study with this incredible dancer - don’t even think about it - JUST DO IT!”

Princess Farhana (Gilded Serpent)

Finally, a Turkish Master in Brisbane! Ozgen has been specialising in Oryantal and Roman Gypsy dance for the last 15 years after an extensive dance background of performance and teaching in contemporary, jazz, ballroom, ballet and Turkish folk  genres.  Now an acclaimed director, choreographer and master teacher, Ozgen is in demand throughout the world to perform and teach the Turkish forms of Bellydance and Romani Gypsy dance.

Ozgen’s teaching is clear, precise and infused with information about the cultural contexts of the movements and dances he teaches.  His classes are full of light-hearted analogies and humor with his charming and cheeky personality making the experience not only educational but relaxed and down-to-earth. Also, taking to the stage while in Brisbane, Ozgen is the consummate performer enrapturing audiences with astounding technique and yet total surrender to the music and the moment.
